Parish Leadership
On Wednesday this past week, our parish councils attended a combined meeting. The members of both our current parish councils have served our communities with great dedication over the past years. They have had their time on the councils extended due to the impact of the Covid pandemic which resulted in many adjustments and restrictions to much of our parish life. Some have served our community in this capacity for 7 plus years, rather than the usual term.
Our councils have worked in the background supporting individuals and community and sharing responsibility to ensure compliance of the government and Archdiocese requirements on the restrictions for our community gatherings.
However, now is the time for them to take a break from council and we invite parishioners to reflect and consider if they are able to contribute to the leadership of the parishes in this important volunteer ministry. The process ahead involves seeking nominations for the council, being informed about the role of the council and self reflection by those nominated if they have the gifts, skills, experiences and personal qualities that will enhance the councils.
The nomination forms will be distributed at all masses on the last week of February, followed by a shared information session and finally election, voted by parishioners at Masses mid March. At this time we are asking you to consider whether you could support your parish in this role or alternatively encourage someone that you believe would be an asset with the necessary leadership and relational qualities needed. If you think of someone, maybe suggest during this month that they consider nomination. Personal invitation always works best.
In the words of Nelson Mandela
What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived.
It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead
Have a good week Vicki, Neil and Brian
